Japan's foreign reserves fall below $1 trillion level

2008-6-10   http://english.china.com
Japan's foreign exchange reserves dropped below the 1 trillion U.S. dollars level for the first time in four months, said the Finance Ministry Friday.

Japan's foreign reserves, the world's second largest following China, shrunk to 996.98 billion dollars at the end of May, a loss of 6.86 billion dollars from late April.

The reserves, which hit a record high of 1,015.59 billion dollars in late March, consist of securities and deposits denominated in foreign currencies, International Monetary Fund reserve positions, IMF special drawing rights and gold.
